This is kind of a reply to Ana's post from Butterflies of the Imagination, complete with corresponding GIF! This time it's a different tiger...
I think I can be pretty obsessive over my fandoms... unlike Ana, who pointed that out very clearly in her post. I pride myself on my talent at being able to get people to back away slowly just by bouncing up and down in a chair and whispering a character names. There's an art to it, you know? You have to bounce just enough, but not that you look like an overexcited five year old, and facial expressions are also crucial- a wide eyed, slightly manic look is best.
Now, please do not get me wrong. I'm not crazy, okay? (okay.) Fangirls are really just high-functioning fanatics, burdened with glorious feels. Our power lies in the ability to really feel the emotions of the stories, to experience what the characters go through. (Hence the term "feels.") Perhaps, however, this ability is also a weakness, because these feelings can also manifest themselves as craziness. This ability- it was the best of fangirls; it was the worst of fangirls. We say things like, "Brace yourselves. Feels are coming," when we read/watch a new book/tv show/comic/manga/anime/webcomic/movie/whatever. And although these things cause us pain, so we beat on, boats against the feels, borne back ceaselessly into the fandom.
We also, as Ana mentioned, sometimes bring up our fandoms every five seconds. This is pretty true for those hardcore fangirls, and yeah, that can be annoying and/or scary. On behalf of my unstable fangirl mind, I apologize to any who have ever been offended by my actions.
Having a fandom, however, is great for making friends! For all those fangirls out there, do you ever see or hear someone talking about a fandom or reading or watching the fandom you like or wearing fandom merch, and then you're instantly like, "You. I like you." Does that ever happen to anyone? I can't be the only one, right? Right?
And may the feels be ever in your favor.
Didya guys catch all the fandom references in there? :3 Ya gotta catch em all, and the first one who does will get a special, rainbow sparkle lamb!
I'm going to try and post on a more regular basis now... I swear, by the Precious! It's just that the Sherlock Season 3 DVD I reserved at the library came... and well... you know... These things just kinda drag me in and make me want to rock back and forth on my bed whispering fandom-things...
So, what are your thoughts on fangirls and fandoms?
